Assisted Hatching
About
What is Assisted Hatching?
Normally, an embryo is surrounded by an outer shell-like structure called the zona pellucida, which helps protect the embryo’s cells during the early stages of development.
When the embryo is ready to implant, it must first hatch out of this outer shell. In some cases, however, the shell may be thicker or harder than usual, making it more difficult for the embryo to hatch, which may affect the chances of pregnancy.
Assisted Hatching is a laboratory technique used to create an opening in the embryo’s outer shell. This helps the embryo hatch more easily and may improve the chances of implantation in the uterus.

Another technology used in fertility treatment to help improve the embryo’s chances of hatching and implantation.
Helps create an opening in the embryo’s outer shell

Suitable for certain embryos that may have a higher risk of implantation difficulty
How It Helps
How does this technology help?
Assisted Hatching is a technique used to create an opening in or thin the embryo’s outer shell, allowing the embryo to hatch more easily before the implantation process in the uterus.
This method is commonly used when the doctor determines that the embryo may have difficulty hatching on its own, such as embryos that have previously been frozen or embryos with a thicker-than-normal outer shell.
The embryo is surrounded by an outer shell.
The doctor creates a small opening in the outer shell.
The embryo can hatch more easily.
Improves the chances of implantation.
Who Should Consider
Who is it suitable for?
Assisted Hatching is not necessary for every case. It is considered individually based on embryo quality, the woman’s age, and previous treatment history.
Benefits
Benefits of Assisted Hatching
Helps the embryo hatch more easily
Reduces potential barriers caused by an embryo outer shell that may be thicker or harder than normal.
Supports the chances of implantation
When the embryo is able to hatch more easily, it may help improve the chances of implantation.
Suitable for frozen embryos
Used as an additional technique in certain cases where the embryos have previously undergone cryopreservation.
Personalized treatment planning
The doctor can assess suitability based on the patient’s treatment history and embryo quality.
Medical Note
Should everyone undergo Assisted Hatching?
Assisted Hatching is not a necessary procedure for every patient. The doctor will assess whether this technology is appropriate based on factors such as the woman's age, embryo quality, the thickness of the embryo’s outer shell, and the patient's previous infertility treatment history.
